Josephine Carr qualified as a barrister before moving into journalism and publishing. As well as being a director of her publishing company, she wrote columns for the Times and Evening Standard and regular articles for a range of magazines. She also worked on StreetLegal for Channel 4 with Paul Foot.

She now runs a sheep farm and livery yard in Sussex and devotes her time to writing, undertaking training courses with Faber and All About Writing.

Our Honest Charlie Wood is her first book. The historical biography of a former Champion Jockey has been very well received, with many readers saying they were unable to put the book down, She was invited to submit the book to the William Hill Sports Book of the Year.

Racing and horses are in Josephine’s blood - an international three day eventer, she inherited her love of horses from her grandfather, Fred Aspin, a jump jockey in the 1920s. He had a moment of fame when he fell from Fantastical at Lingfield Races in 1921, and vaulted back on and finished the race. When he retired from riding he spent many years as the head groom at the stud in Jevington, East Sussex, originally established by Charles Wood.
